FAQ
Most questions can be answered by using the page and feature.

What trails may I post about?

You may only discuss or mention legal trails. No illegal trail talk even if the trail has been around for a long time. You may not refer to an illegal trail by "sounds like ...", "... area", initials or any other means. If it's not listed or linked on our trails page then it most likely shouldn't be posted about. Contact a moderator or administrator if you aren't sure if the trail is legal before you post.

Why did my post get deleted?
Did you break a rule? Did you check the pinned posts located in the appropriate board? Are you trolling? These are some but not all of the reasons that posts get deleted.

  • One forum username per person
  • Do not act condescending (actively or passively) towards other types of riders
  • Type using U.S. English. No text speak. Attempt to properly use punctuation and capitalization
  • No content promoting entities external to TriangleMTB.com
  • No personal attacks
  • Post a message only once, and in the appropriate board
  • Keep content family friendly
  • No spam

For Sale Board
  • No commercial posts
  • No bumping your post
  • No jumping in on other posts saying things like "Don’t buy this one, mine is cheaper"
  • Replies to posts should be between the seller and prospective buyers

Why can't I edit my post?
You can't edit your post just like you can't un-say something you've already said.  In the past, we had a long edit/delete window for posts and had numerous instances where people make posts in violation of forum rules or were otherwise intentionally inflammatory, and they would stir up crap and then edit later (but before a moderator saw it) to say something completely different.  This makes running the forum very difficult.  There is a preview and spell check feature, so people should make use of those before posting. Edit: We are now allowing edits. Please use them appropriately and don't abuse them.

How do I get Trail Status updates when there's no contact info listed?
Some of the trails do not officially close due to trail conditions. The Trail Status feature for these trails is meant to be used as a guide line for trail use without doing damage. A few people that reside near these trails usually keep the status updated very well.

I PM'ed a Moderator/Administrator but never heard back, what next?
We usually don't log in to the administrator and moderator accounts unless we need to, so we may not have seen your PM yet. The best way to contact the webmaster is via email: admin@trianglemtb.com. This is the official contact for TriangleMTB.com. If you happen to know the webmaster or a forum administrator, do not use their personal contact as the TriangleMTB.com contact. To report an inappropriate post simply use the "Report to moderator" feature located on each post (you  must be logged in.) For general PM's we attempt to answer them in a timely fashion. We will just delete your PM if it's rude, demanding or full of text speak and/or poor use of punctuation/capitalization. If you want something or have something to say, be courteous.

How do I post a picture or other file?
To include a photo in a post there are two methods.  These methods assume you are using a desktop computer or other device which has the same or equivalent functionality available.  Jump to Method 2 for posting files other than image types.

Method 1 involves first uploading your photograph file onto the internet where it is publicly viewable.  There are several free photo hosting sites, this google search https://www.google.com/search?q=free+picture+hosting shows some.  Once the photo is uploaded you will need the URL which will display the file itself, not a web page which shows the file.  Some of the online hosting sites have tools or buttons which help surface the url or shows you bbcode.  Read their documentation.  Copy the url or bbcode to your clipboard.  When composing a post, click the button highlighted by the red 1 in the image below.  This will insert the text shown in 1a.  Paste your photo url into the text shown by the red arrow.  It must go between the right bracket and left bracket.  If you have copied bbcode, paste it over the text which the button inserted, or don't click the button shown by red 1 in for first place.  It is recommended that the photo you post not be overly large or it will load slowly and get resized automatically and may not look clear.

Method 2 involves attaching the photograph file to the post you are making.  To do this, you first have to expand the "Attachments and other options section".  See the red 2 in the image below.  Next, click the "browse" button shown in 2a, locate your photo file, and upload it.  Click "more attachments" shown in 2b if you have more photos you wish to post.  Note that your photo files cannot be too large in the number of bytes or height/width.  Use image editing software to resize your photo files to be below the maximum size in bytes but also note if your photo is small in bytes but large in height/width, the forum will resize it and it may not look as clear.
